Course Description:
This course will provide updates and a review of emerging evidence-based treatment and techniques related to stroke rehabilitation and care. The principles presented aim to explore a diverse selection of innovative areas in stroke rehabilitation. A variety of disciplines including therapy and physician will be represented in this course as part of a holistic approach to optimal management of our patients
Course Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Identify key barriers to accessing stroke rehabilitation
- Apply practical strategies to improve access to stroke rehabilitation
- Describe aphasia and LPAA (Life Participation Approach to Aphasia)
- Be able to utilize supported communication for those with communication disorders
- Describe the principles of neuroplasticity and how they support high-intensity, task-specific interventions
- Discuss the application of high intensity, task specific interventions post stroke
- Identify appropriate intensity targets for functional training post-stroke
- Address barriers to delivering high intensity training in the sub-acute setting
- Describe sexual function post stroke affecting quality of life
- Identify barriers to sexual intercourse post stroke(physical and cognitive)
- List physiological components of stroke affecting sexual dysfunction
- Identify practical applications for PTs and OTs to improve sexual function post stroke
