Course Description:
This course will address rehab considerations for patients that have previously undergone or are currently undergoing cancer treatments for neurologic and hematological cancers. We will provide an understanding of the different types of cancers that fall into these two categories and the functional sequela from the cancer and it’s treatment. Neurotoxicity will be highlighted and determine which impairments are amendable to rehabilitation from PT, OT and/or SLP. Patient cases will be reviewed at various stages of treatment and include inpatient, outpatient and home health therapy interventions. The asynchronous content to be completed prior to the in person course will discuss foundational oncology information including epidemiology, staging, and cancer treatments.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Participants will be able to identify various types of neurologic and hematological cancers along with an anticipated treatment sequela.
- Participants will be able to integrate treatment strategies for anticipated or identified impairments related to a neuro oncology or hematological cancer diagnosis throughout the continuum of care.
- Participants will be able to effectively communicate their understanding of a patient’s treatment journey when interacting with patients in their designated work setting.
- Participants will be able to determine safe exercise dosing for patients during or after cancer treatments and identify any contraindications to exercise.

The information presented in this course is clinically relevant for Physical Therapist (PT), Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), Occupational Therapist (OT), and Occupational Therapist Assistants (OTA) and Speech Language Pathologist practitioners*.
