Course Description:
This course offers practitioners practical guidelines for the application of specific therapeutic exercises for patients with neuromusculoskeletal impairments. The philosophies of this course are based on a scientific understanding of anatomy and biomechanics combined with utilization of principles of motor control and neuroplasticity. This content is integrated into algorithmic clinical problem solving to develop efficient and effective exercises/activities that are unique and specific to meet the needs of each patient. The course will include both lecture and lab demonstrations, case presentations, as well as emphasis on case study development and presentation in order to provide the participant with a “hands on” experience that will carry over into clinical practice.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course the participants will be able to…
• Define anatomy, biomechanical, motor control, and neuroplasticity nomenclature as it relates to exercise dosing.
• Describe the composition, mechanism of injury, and optimal stimulus for regeneration for the various connective tissues.
• List, describe, discuss, and perform the optimal dosed stimuli for rehabilitation of patients with primarily neuromusculoskeletal impairments
• Prescribe a specific dose of exercise based on the neuromusculoskeletal impairment and the goals of the treatment. *
• To design specific exercise progressions by performing exercises/activities related to revascularization/regeneration, motor control, endurance, speed, strength, and function to promote a strong foundation, capacity and improved performance. *
