Course Description:
This course provides an overview of emerging evidence-based treatments and techniques in pediatric rehabilitation. It examines key principles and highlights diverse, innovative approaches to optimizing rehabilitation outcomes for pediatric patients. A multidisciplinary perspective is emphasized to support comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

- Describe the purpose and key components of the F-words Lens Tool and explain how it supports family-centered, strengths-based clinical reasoning for children with disabilities.
- Apply the F-words Lens Tool and 10Cs for Excellence in Participation to a pediatric case example to identify functional goals and guide collaborative clinical decision-making.
- Identify key principles of neuroplasticity and specific implementation within pediatric settings
- Evaluate implementation ideas and tips to facilitate increased use of neuroplasticity principles within pediatric rehabilitation
- Identify how all disciplines have an active screening role and can participate in advancing feeding skills for children.
- Explain the 4 components of feeding and the importance of educating clinicians, physicians and families on the importance of incorporating all of them into a plan of care.
- Differentiate common traumatic and non-traumatic pediatric spinal cord and brain injury diagnoses encountered in the inpatient rehabilitation setting.
- Describe appropriate assessments, rehabilitation interventions, and adaptive equipment used to promote functional outcomes for children with spinal cord and brain injuries.
