Course Description:
Following the trajectory of recovery from the time of injury through to the resolution of symptoms and return to activities and participation, this course will equip you with the skills to examine, assess, treat and manage the care of individuals with concussion related symptoms and limitations. This course aims to summarize the most recent evidence from scientific research, expert opinion, and professional organization consensus. However, the primary goal is to translate state-of-the-art knowledge into actionable recommendations for clinical practice. Whether you are a beginner with the clinical management of this patient population or you would just like an up-to-date view of the current state of practice in this domain, expect to come away with a greater understanding of the scope of the problems this population faces and how to best address them.
Course Objectives:
After this course, PT participants will be able to:

- Compare and contrast the typical components of the subjective and objective exam for an individual with concussion in the acute, vs. sub-acute, vs. chronic stages.
- Classify the typical anatomical and physiological ramifications of concussion into key impairment domains and connect with appropriate methods of intervention based on current evidence.
- Demonstrate typical examination and intervention procedures in lab setting using case-based examples.
- Demonstrate the use of self-report and physical tests and measures to monitor effects of treatment, assess extent of recovery, and guide return to activity decisions.
