Course Description:

Participants in this course will utilize a biopsychosocial framework for the clinical analysis of normal gait patterns and pathologic gait deviations in individuals with orthopedic and neurologic dysfunction. Evidence-based outcomes measures assessing treatment efficacy will also be reviewed. The participant will perform live and video observational analysis to apply this framework.

Course Objectives:

  • At the end of this presentation, Physical Therapists will be able to:
    • Discuss a biopsychosocial framework for clinical gait analysis including:
    o Definitions
    o Integration of the ICF Model
    o Assessment
    o Nomenclature
    • Identify and apply outcome measures related to clinical gait analysis including selection, administration and interpretation.
    • Identify the parameters of normal gait.
    • Identify pathologic mechanisms of gait.
    • Identify common gait deviations such as:
    o Those at the ankle, foot, knee, hip, pelvis, and trunk.
    o Those common to adult neurologic dysfunction
    At the end of this presentation, Physical Therapist Assistants will be able to:
    • Discussion of a biopsychosocial framework for clinical gait observation including:
    o Definitions
    o Integration of the ICF Model
    o Nomenclature
    • Implement outcome measures related to clinical gait analysis including selection and administration.
    • Identify the parameters of normal gait.
    • Identify pathologic patterns of gait.
    • Identify common gait deviations such as:
    o Those at the ankle, foot, knee, hip, pelvis, and trunk.
    o Those common to adult neurologic dysfunction
